Mixed Use
Wednesday, 21 October 2009 07:16

3LHD_Zamet_Centre_04Situated in the Croatian coastal city of Rijeka, the new Zamet Centre is a multi-purpose comunity edifice,  hosting, mainly, a 2380-seat sports hall, the local community offices, a library, and 13 retail/service spaces.

While the third of the sports hall’s volume is embeded  in the ground, the rest of the Centre has been fully integrated into the surrounding landscape.

The building’s main architectural elements are ribbon-like linear stripes stretching over the entire site in a north-south direction,  functioning at the same time as an architectural design element and a zoning element that forms a public square and links between the park on the north and school and B. Vidas street on the south.

Croatian architecture firm 3LHD has won the competition for this business center in Zagreb.

The competition program is placed on a crossing of two streets, Miramarska and Bednjanska. It is a point of colliding two urban city concepts: north part with classical city blocks of the Zagreb’s lower city enclosed by the railway and the south part primarily along the Vukovarska Street, outlined with modernistic dominant character of mostly public and social buildings.

Houses
Friday, 03 April 2009 01:54

3LHD_House_K_01.jpg Family house K is situated on a large residential plot on a moderate eastern-facing slope at the edge of a forest near the base of Sljeme hill. By placing the object next to the street in the north-western corner of the plot, preference was given to a beautiful forest view; the uneven terrain was used as a means of developing the object’s volume.

The concept of the house is inspired by the shape of a snail’s shell, which involves a spiral twisting around its own axis, and as such all functional elements of the house follow each other and are built around a central atrium. The atrium was made in order to compensate for a lack of sunlight in the living-room area and enabled two-way lighting of certain rooms.

A very interesting interior where the combination of light, colors and textures contribute in filling the space and bringing it to life. The furniture with its shape and layout complements the architecture and reinforces its concept.

House “V” was designed in order to satisfy the needs of a family. Applying communication between the common and individual rooms, the facilities and functions of the space have been connected into a single unit that creates a comfortable living area for a family.

New Projects
Wednesday, 13 April 2011 15:38

3LHD_187_Green_Pavilion_Restaurant_render_by_Boris_Goreta_01The most important element and the inspiration for this project is the location itself, with extremely high quality existing vegetation densely distributed throughout the plot and gradually diluted out toward the eastern edge. The idea of the new Pavilion / Restaurant is to construct a space by mapping the area of high quality trees and to define the remaining territory for construction. By raising this "cut" green territory in the air the space “below” is created. The basic formal and functional element and a seasonal regulator of light is so-called “vegetative” canopy that has been formed along the entire edge of the roof.
