THURSDAY NIGHT IS DATE NIGHT Start the weekend early with a Thursday night cruise with the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF), 5:30 pm, June through September. Equipped with full service bar, the CAF architecture river cruise is offered aboard Chicago's First Lady Cruises cruising yachts, with open-air decks as well as air conditioned interior seating. The 1 ½ hour cruise is a perfect beginning for a warm summer night date. It offers spectacular views of the city from the perspective of the river while providing an interesting commentary by one of CAF’s specially trained volunteer docents. “This evening cruise is a first for us,” said Jason Neises, VP of Tours at CAF. “We have been offering a full schedule of daytime architecture river cruises since 1983 but this is the first time we are offering this popular cruise in the evening.” The cruise highlights 53 historic and architecturally significant sites including: the Trump Tower, Merchandise Mart, 333 W. Wacker, the Wrigley Building, the Tribune Tower, the Sears Tower, River City, and Marina City. The cruise also includes the North Branch of the Chicago River with buildings such as The Montgomery, formerly the world headquarters for Montgomery Ward; the Chicago Tribune printing press plant; Goose Island; Kinzie Park development; Riverbend and the clustered glass River Cottages. The Thursday evening cruise is also great for an after-work meet-up with friends. It gives people a chance to enjoy a warm summer evening outdoors while cruising the Chicago River. All CAF cruises depart from the lower level and southeast corner of the Michigan Avenue Bridge at Wacker Drive. The staircase to the ticket window and dock is marked by a blue awning. The 2009 Tour Schedule runs through November 21. CAF sells advance tickets (online or by telephone) through TicketMaster. The print-at-home option allows quicker check-in for passengers at the dock. Tickets are $28/person (Mon-Fri) $32/person (Sat/Sun/Holidays) and are available at the Chicago’s First Lady ticket window at the dock or the CAF Shop, 224 S. Michigan Avenue.
