Three cultural institutions, all located on the 200 block of South Michigan Avenue, have joined efforts to invite the public to help them support Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Art Institute, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Architecture Foundation are each offering unique “2016” activities for Sunday, September 13.

An Olympic bus tour, symphony tickets for $20.16, free activities and discounts at the Art Institute, and events for the whole family are planned to help “Back the Bid” on Sunday, September 13.

The Chicago Architecture Foundation, 224 S. Michigan, is providing a special 2016 Highlights by Bus tour– at a $20.16 price.  Departing at 9:30 a.m., the tour includes sites of the proposed Olympic and Paralympic venues such as Washington Park, the lakefront and harbors as well as the standard Highlights by Bus locations.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO), 220 S Michigan, will offer tickets for all Chicago Symphony Orchestra Main series concerts (purchased on September 13) in the 2009-2010 season for $20.16. Call (312) 294-3000 or order online at www.cso.org. Some restrictions apply.

The Art Institute of Chicago will offer a free sports-themed self-guide to the collection; free sports-related art activities for families in the Ryan Education Center; a discount on the Japanese screen catalog Beyond Golden Clouds for $20.16; and a museum admission discount plus an audio guide tour, all available September 13 for $20.16.

The Chicago Architecture Foundation will also provide a free family program from 11 am to 1 pm, and 30-minute Chicago Model City gallery talks with an emphasis on the proposed sites of the Olympic and Paralympic venues at 2:00 and 2:30 pm.

The CSO will also offer free music (mp3) downloads of CSO performances of both The Olympic Anthem and The National Anthem from www.cso.org between Friday, September 11 and Sunday, September 13.

The Art Institute of Chicago is an encyclopedic museum that collects, preserves, and displays the third-largest art collection in the nation. The museum just completed the largest expansion in its history, the Modern Wing designed by Renzo Piano. The Modern Wing features the latest in green museum technology and 264,000 square feet dedicated to modern and contemporary art, photography, architecture and design, and new museum education facilities.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is consistently hailed as one of today’s leading orchestras, with performances in demand at home and in the most prestigious musical venues around the world.  The CSO performs well over 120 concerts each year at its downtown home, Symphony Center, and at the Ravinia Festival each summer. In May 2008, the CSO announced the appointment of world-renowned conductor Riccardo Muti as its 10th music director.  Maestro Muti currently serves as music director designate, and will begin his tenure as music director in September 2010.

The Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) is a nonprofit organization offering architecture tours, free exhibitions, and youth and adult education programs. Current exhibitions are Chicago Model City and B Like Burnham; the Chicago Architecture Foundation is located at 224 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60604.
