When: From September 23 to November 21 2008
The exhibition contrasts Chicago’s late 19th-century building boom with the exploding mega-cities of Asia and the Middle East today. Curated by critic Lynn Becker, Boom Towns! presents iconic works of Chicago architecture, such as Burnham & Root’s 1891 Masonic Temple and Adler & Sullivan’s 1894 Chicago Stock Exchange Building. Against this background, the exhibition features the architecture of explosive growth by internationally renowned architecture firms—including Murphy/Jahn in Thailand, Studio/Gang in India, Ben Wood/Studio Shanghai in Shanghai, Goettsch Partners in Abu Dhabi, and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in China and the Middle East.
