Located in the costal little town of Nesodden on the eastern side of Norway, the house is built on a site with views towards the sea between the branches of the surrounding pine-forest. The permitted aerial building lines define the plan and even the heights of the roofline.

While the exterior views are singularly framed by the window openings, closely related to individual spaces, the interior is treated in a more fluent way with overlapping sequences of space and light in section and plan. This duality of focal and flow is the theme of the building.

This was the first house completed in new Dallas neighborhood devoted entirely to Modernism. As our clients were the first they were able to select a premier albeit irregularly-shaped site that overlooks a public park and waterway.

Guests enter from the street under a covered porch that leads to a double- height entry that is illuminated from above. The space compresses just before entering the next double-height volume of the living room. This space is adjoined by the dining space and kitchen.

Located on the hill above a small village at some 150km from Mexico City, the main feature of this retreat is its magnificent view. Its aim is to live with the landscape under a canopy with as few interior elements as possible.

A fireplace, a kitchen bar and a marble platform 20m long laid as a free floor plan for public areas and garage on top of a solid block which houses the rest of the program, namely services, three bedrooms and a family room.

Guilherme Machado Vaz - Valley House in Vieira do Minho, Portugal Print E-mail
Thursday, 27 November 2008 03:13

For the architect, all the conception process of the Valley House started with the Valley without the house, or either. It started with the confrontation of the architect with natural space. At the root of his concept was the will to respect the local topography, while covering and utilizing the 10.000m2 of available area. He wanted a volume proportionate to the land. Far from being a lost object in the vast surrounding site, the house was shaped as a long and compact element that is well embedded in the ground.

Arquitectura X - X House, in the Tumbaco Valley, Quito, Ecuador Print E-mail
Friday, 21 November 2008 01:59

House_X_03.jpg Arquitectura X went through the challenging task of designing this house before any site got allocated to the project. It pushed them in setting out an elemental scheme that could work both in both the urban environment of Ecuador’s capital, Quito and the valleys east of the city. They distilled their experience into an abstracted form, inspired by the work of Donald Judd that could be placed in any of the sites they would eventually find: an open ended box whose spatial limits would be the eastern and western ranges of the Andes.
