Guilherme Machado Vaz - Valley House in Vieira do Minho, Portugal Print E-mail
Thursday, 27 November 2008 03:13

For the architect, all the conception process of the Valley House started with the Valley without the house, or either. It started with the confrontation of the architect with natural space. At the root of his concept was the will to respect the local topography, while covering and utilizing the 10.000m2 of available area. He wanted a volume proportionate to the land. Far from being a lost object in the vast surrounding site, the house was shaped as a long and compact element that is well embedded in the ground.

Arquitectura X - X House, in the Tumbaco Valley, Quito, Ecuador Print E-mail
Friday, 21 November 2008 01:59

House_X_03.jpg Arquitectura X went through the challenging task of designing this house before any site got allocated to the project. It pushed them in setting out an elemental scheme that could work both in both the urban environment of Ecuador’s capital, Quito and the valleys east of the city. They distilled their experience into an abstracted form, inspired by the work of Donald Judd that could be placed in any of the sites they would eventually find: an open ended box whose spatial limits would be the eastern and western ranges of the Andes.

Sou Fujimoto Architects - Final Wooden House Print E-mail
Wednesday, 22 October 2008 03:15

Fujimoto_Kumamura_01.jpg

Some projects help the architect to think about the basics. This is more important in these times when, they are questioning their methods, and needs to be done differently to obtain a more eco-friendly and sustainable project.

In that perspective, Sou Fujimoto built this prototypical project that kept him thinking of the primary functions of the house.

Here are the ideas behind the project, in the architect’s own words.

« I wanted to create an ultimate wooden architecture. I thought through this bungalow, which can be considered as a small and primitive house, it was possible to do a primitive and simultaneously new architecture. 350mm square profile cedar is piled endlessly. At the end of the process appears a prototypical place before architecture became architecture."
