Building in a mountainous environment surely has its share of obstacles, but also opportunities to create a unique architecture solution that is proper to the site, its surrounding views, as well as the region in which it is situated.
As a case in point, we are featuring this beautiful house by a|k|a architecture + design and located in Whistler’s Spring Creek, conceived as a series of walls cutting into an extraordinarily steep site. The walls are composed of glass, concrete and wood, alternatively holding back the earth and opening the view. The open spaces exploit the dramatic site characteristics. Panoramic views to the Tantalus Range and an abundance of light were paramount considerations for this 4000 sq.-ft. home.
