Kostika_AlexandrosTso_01The project renovates a 3-storey house (650 sq. m) built in the 70’s in Athen's north suburbs. It needed to be totally redesigned to suit the needs of the owners; a couple with their 3 children owning a significant collection of Contemporary Art. The house situated on a steep site possessed a distinctive style from the seventies that is usually found in the suburbs of Athens.

Working within and around the existing frame, the architect wanted the final product to be as contemporary as a newly built residence. He sill wanted to preserve some of the rich architectural details of the original house. Major work was performed on the concrete frame of the house, which was completely undressed to reveal its structural condition. Some finishing materials such as stone were preserved, while new material such as wood, zinc, iron and fair face concrete were introduced to the external elevations, to complete the dressing of the reconstruction of the old structure.
Kostika_AlexandrosTso_03The interior of the house was totally redesigned, with the addition of a new pool in the lower ground garden level. While some spaces were designed around specific artwork, the whole internal layout of the house is conceived in a flexible casual manner with the artwork and furniture integrating the setup that suits the requirements of daily life.
