Sited on a sloping waterfront property, the main contextual focal points for the design of this ultramodern home are views, access to the water, privacy and no view obstruction to uphill properties.

The long-span concrete thin shell structure allows sharp exterior edges and opens the living spaces to the view. The highly detailed wood interior is flooded in conditioned daylight.

The architects exhorted a commendable effort to produce a sustainable design. As a result, the residence uses next to no fossil fuel for its operation, instead it relies on a number of smart systems:

1. A ground source heat pump system, coupled to a closed loop geothermal field, located under the auto court and the yard. This drives an in-floor hydronic radiant system and a displacement air system, which combine to fully condition the space.

2. A photovoltaic set-up is designed to be seamlessly incorporated into the extensive sun screening system.

3. Rainwater is collected for landscape irrigation, with a large cistern under the pool patio.

4. Courtyards, carved out of the building volume, introduce daylight into the heart of the dwelling, while large roof overhangs with stainless steel louvers provide sun shading.
