Rockefeller Partners created this modern beach 4,500 Square feet house on the Strand in Manhattan Beach.
This particular client has never lived more than a few blocks away from the beach. His love of Balinese architecture challenged Rockefeller Partners to create a modern, Californian interpretation.
The three-story home places the public spaces on the highest floor, affording them the best views.
Private spaces are placed on the middle floor, and the Ground floor houses the beach room and family room that is accessible to the walkway street, just steps away from the beach.

This ground floor also houses the home office and a covered parking area, a luxury in such a densely populated area as Manhattan Beach.
By making use of absolutely every inch of the space and applying smart space planning principals, the home offers privacy and expansive views, without ever feeling crowded by its neighbors. Special features include: a pebble-floored master bath with automatic privacy control Windows that overlook the zen garden; the floating master stair; the zebrawood and red marble chef's kitchen; and an 18th century screen that was re-engineered to cover the flat screen TV.
Add to that foldable walls that blur indoors and out, a fireplace on the glass-railed balcony that offers expansive views of the classic Californian sunset, and the dramatic cantilevered staircase that is both sculptural and functional, doubling as a thermal chimney pulling cooler air upward through the home and pushing hot air out the clerestory.
