Torys is a highly respected international business law firm with 300 legal professionals in its Toronto and New York offices. In Toronto, the firm has occupied nine and a half floors in the south tower of the Toronto Dominion Centre, some of them since the 1980’s. In conjunction with negotiating an extension of its lease in 2005 and 2006, Torys decided to rejuvenate its interiors, which were no longer aligned with the leadership and innovative spirit that is the hallmark of its practice. Designed by KPMB Architects , the proposed renovations were conceived to bring the existing premises up to current standards of practice from both a functional and aesthetic perspective. The principal objective was to consolidate meeting spaces. An underlying goal was to foreground Torys contemporary Canadian art collection, which is distinguished by photo-based and conceptual works by internationally-lauded artists such as Edward Burtynsky, Rodney Graham, and Yves Gaucher, among others.

This office building rises from its surroundings with a distinctive
exterior; a shell structure of intertwined wooden elements, covering a
transparent structure of glass and steel. Transparency and lightness make the essential ingredients of the formal concept.
The bended wooden diamond elements, sprouting from balconies, enter in
a dialogue with the textile membrane that helps the building integrate
in the surrounding landscape and protects the construction from bad
weather conditions and excessive exposure to the sun.
Natural illumination penetrates the building from all sides and
enhances the visual impact of the internal volumes, the different
textures and materials that are used, guaranteeing a crisp visual
cleanliness.

AD11 - Offices of Alazraki KP Advertising Agency |
|
|
|
Sunday, 02 November 2008 19:00 |
|
The project for the advertising agency Alazraki KP consists of two buildings constructed at different stages. The first one was conceived as a radical intervention of an existing building by transforming its use and image, while respecting the existing structure.
The building is located facing a high speed road that contains a central sidewalk lined with tall trees. Thus the project proposes a new red body housing the lobby that forms a portico framing the ‘green’ area and that folds itself to announce the agency’s logo.

Office of Metropolitan Architecture - China Central Television Station and Headquarters |

Here is another innovative project by dutch architects of the Office of Metropolitan Architecture. CCTV will be one among many towers in Beijing’s new Central Business District, all striving to be unique – all different expressions of the vertical dimension. The tragedy of the skyscraper is that it marks a place as significant, which it then occupies and exhausts with banality… This banality is twofold: in spite of their potential to be incubators of new cultures, programs, and ways of life, most towers accommodate merely routine activity, arranged according to predictable patterns. Formally, their expressions of verticality have proven to stunt the imagination: as verticality soars, creativity crashes.

When leading UK eco architects, Architype, grew out of their old office they decided that their new West of England office would be a model of sustainable workplace practice and contemporary design.
In 2007 Architype was awarded the Royal Institute of British Architects’ prestigious National Sustainability Award for the recently completed new office building, a resounding endorsement of their achievement. Architype was also named Building Magazine’s Sustainable Architect of the Year 2007.
Architype required a property in the West of England that could
accommodate an expanding office staff of 17 (the practice also supports
a 20 strong office in London).

The Deloitte Headquarters is Denmark’s largest open office building. Designed by 3XN, it is situated opposite the recreational area of Stadsgraven waters by Langebro, close to city, Ørestad and the Metro. A common urban masterplan controls three buildings, of which Deloitte is the largest. They present themselves as solitary volumes on the edge between land and water.
