Zhangjiang Semiconductor Research Park, Phase II is an important component of the Zhangjiang High-tech Park.
Located in the heart of Shanghai, the park attracts top-notch technology and research companies and has established Shanghai as a world leader in technology.
MulvannyG2 Architecture designed phase II as a complementary 118-acre addition to the existing park, creating one of the largest, and one of the most unique, high-tech parks in the world.

The design concept was to create a technology research and development
park that reflected the culture, environment, and amenities of five
international communities: Seattle, Florence, Munich, New York’s
Central Park, and Shanghai, itself, while maintaining a clear focus on
supporting a high-tech environment. The architectural style of each
area is indicative of the culture of the city being represented. A rich
palette of textures and diverse materials native to each area adds
visual interest. The design incorporates ecological friendly elements
to create a healthy and warm feeling.

Master Planning
The master plan for the Zhangjiang Semiconductor Research Park was
designed with specific attention to site development phasing. In the
design scheme, the site along both sides of the Zhangdong Road was
divided into two distinct parcels: one parcel would contain three of
the distinct communities and the second parcel would house the other
two. The Zhangdong Road intersects the site and is the connector that
links all five communities.

Design of the clustered communities maximized views of the Lu Jia Bang
River from all sides. Our master plan for the international communities
is predicated on a modular arrangement that can be easily redesigned to
accommodate changing market conditions and demands. At the entrance to
the site, there is a mega-scale public activities center. The open
lawn, the magnificent landmark tower, as well as the grand water
features, form an exciting, welcoming atmosphere. Fifty-seven acres of
public space are incorporated throughout the project.
Inside the complex, the five communities are designed with different
density and environments. The composition of architecture, the unique
layout of each community, the use of water features, and a rich palette
of textures and diverse materials native to each area adds visual
interest.

Architecture Design
Instead of building another crowded man-made office environment, the
design creates a comfortable garden style green office environment. To
achieve the complex design of the buildings, multi-pattern building
modules of differing sizes were used. These basic modules are highly
flexible, but retain their integrity regardless of configuration. More
than 80 buildings are arranged in three different sizes -- big, medium
and small -- giving the tenants the highest flexibility in terms of
usage.
To achieve the distinct architecture of each themed community, the
modules were used in various combinations. Carefully chosen materials
and details combined to reach the perfect harmony of architecture,
nature, and human scale.
