Birkerød’s new sports and recreation centre is a multi-purpose hub in Birkerød’s public space. The site is elongated and has two very distinct sides: an urban side with traffic circulating, and a green, recreational side.

The project covers the new build of a multi-purpose sports hall, an activity foyer, a fitness centre, dance studios, a balcony for children and young people and the erection of a covered football stand. It also includes the refurbishment of the existing stadium building.

All the functions are clustered in a single legible centre where an extended, un¬dulating skin of silk printed glass reveals the sports hall’s functions, creating an elegant, transparent, unified whole. The striking roof profile signals movement and activity.
004 003 The centre is set over three levels: the lower ground floor which is on a level with the playing fields and the lower level of the sports hall; the ground floor which is on a level with the street and the upper floor of the sports hall; and the first floor, which is the top level of the centre.
