Shedding the light on more exhibitors at the 11th International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia, here is the contribution of urban landscape designers TOPOTEK 1 to the exhibit in the Italian Pavilion, consisting of a design project that feature their work and philosophies.
Twenty-two refrigerators are lined up along the wall, partly stacked on top of each other and filled. The fridges speak of Topotek 1’s work tactics, their sensibilities towards the site. They mimic the sensations that a visitor feels in a garden, as they allow a glimpse into their enchanting worlds. They are filled with abstract model/worlds, which pick up motifs of one or several realized projects and explore them even further.

The refrigerators contain fans and kaleidoscopic viewing machines,
sound structures, sight-twisters, and color-splashers, as well as a
small library with publications by Topotek1. The collage of projects is
self-referential and self-associative. It reveals details and creates
synchronicities. It is a playful experiment by itself, and an open-end
design study.
The boxes are dynamically related to the Garden. Closed, they suggest
the manageable realities in which the world is regulated. Opened, the
microclimate machines, will confront the viewer’s face, some with
extreme temperatures, involving him in an active and sensual
communication, as the case would be for the open space. The
communication transcends the visual language; the refrigerators keep
their store available for a long time, they might as well keep some of
the promises of the paradisiacal garden.
