Strelka, a new postgraduate school for media, architecture and design, launches its ambitious educational program for 2010-11, developed in collaboration with AMO, in a special event at the Red October Chocolate Factory in Moscow on 25 May.

The Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design, a non-profit, independent school, intends to raise the ambition of the creative industries in Moscow. A select group of students will work intensely and innovatively on a series of themes currently shaping Russia and its role in the world. Their work – culminating in a variety of projects to be presented at the end of the first academic year – will be guided and interrogated by instructors who are leaders in their cultural fields both within Russia and internationally.

San Francisco based firm to design large-scale headquarters for China Automotive Technology & Research Center and Guangzhou International Fashion Center for Canudilo


Heller Manus Architects has just announced that has been awarded the contract to design a new headquarters complex for the China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATRC) in Tianjin, China.  With several offices throughout China, this new building complex will serve as the main headquarters for the entire China Automotive Technology & Research Center.

A collaboration between Canadian architectural practice Fowler Bauld & Mitchell and Denmark's schmidt hammer lassen architects will design a 45 million Canadian dollars (€ 33 million) Central Library in the Canadian port city of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Reiser + Umemoto's Taipei Pop Music Center Print E-mail

Reiser-Umemoto-01Manhattan-based architects Reiser + Umemoto announced that the firm has won an international competition to design Asia’s first performance complex devoted to pop music.

Created in collaboration with global engineering practice Arup Associates, the winning design for the Taipei Pop Music Center in Taipei, Taiwan sets a new standard for performing arts centres everywhere, combing multiple venues and novel design solutions to create an immersive pop music experience.

The program for the Center comprises an indoor multi-balcony theatre accommodating 3,000- to 6,000-person audiences in seated and standing formats, an outdoor performing space with 15,000 standing seats, a Hall of Fame museum, a digital music and media library, medium and small indoor exhibition and performing live houses, music industry offices and communities and incubation space.

Matteo_thun"The wooden beacons" is an installation by Architect Matteo Thun and the Fashion House Marni: a talking point about life cycle rhythm. A process of managing the entire life cycle of a product from its conception, through design and manufacture.

"The wooden beacons" is a dialogue between two creative worlds: architecture and fashion. Hardware and software. The mix of raw and soft elements as a demonstration of life cycle management. Interni Think Tank as a part of the FuoriSalone 2010 is the ideal platform to convey this idea.

LEED-CI for HOK's London Office Print E-mail

HOK London's new office at the Qube in Central London has earned LEED for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) Gold certification, the first office space in the United Kingdom to achieve this distinction from the U.S. Green Building Council. The 20,000-square-foot project is the most recent of the architectural design firm's 11 LEED-certified offices.

North Vancouver firm mcfarlane green biggar architecture + design (mgb) has been honoured with two of this year’s six International Interior Design Association awards. Out of nearly 300 projects nominated from around the world, the design for the Rennie Gallery + Offices at Wing Sang, and the inventive interiors for Lynn Steven boutique were both chosen as winning entries for the 37th Annual Interior Design Competition.
