The Department of Design and Construction for the City of New York has awarded a contract to Swanke Hayden Connell Architects (SHCA) for design services related to the rehabilitation of three health centers run by the NYC Department of Health that are located in landmark quality buildings.

The facilities include:
Astoria District Health Center (ca. 1935) – landmark quality Classical Revival building in Astoria, Queens.
Bedford District Health Center (1950) – landmark quality Modern/Art Deco building in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Fort Green Health Clinic (1938) – a landmark quality Art Deco style building in Brooklyn.

The scope of work primarily involves exterior building envelope rehabilitation and ADA accessibility upgrades.  The proposed changes for the buildings were reviewed by and approved by the Art Commission of the City of New York.

Construction on the project is under way, with completion slated for October 2008.
