23 award winners honored by the National Trust during its 2010 National Preservation Conference. Each year, the National Trust bestows awards upon individuals, nonprofit organizations, public agencies and corporations whose contributions, it considers, represent singular success in preserving, rehabilitating, or interpreting America’s architectural and cultural heritage.

As we did last year, we are pleased to announce the winners of the 2010 winners of Canada’s National Design Exchange Awards. This nationwide competition is open to all types of professional designers and business’ across Canada working in a range of design disciplines. All winners are on display in an extensive exhibition at the Design Exchange from until March 27th, 2011.

Evolving From Moshe Safdie’s Pioneering Habitat, Golden Dream Bay Design Breaks Down Mega-Scale to Maximize Light and Outdoor Space in High-Density Residential Towers. Safdie Architects announced that it won a competitive bid to design Golden Dream Bay, a residential and retail complex in Qinhuangdao, China, a city of 2.8 million located 300 km east of Beijing.

Hypar Pavilion is a free standing structure home to a new public lawn and restaurant, situated on the edge of Hearst Plaza and 65th Street. The dual requirements of a destination restaurant and a public green space located within the confines of the Plaza are satisfied with a single architectural gesture.

Here is a detailed look at Zaha Hadid Architects’ first completed project in England, the Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton, south London for ARK Schools. Designed for 1200 pupils, the Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton, London Borough of Lambeth, wants to broaden not only the educational diversity of this active and historical part of London but also augments the built environment in a predominantly residential area.

Given the opportunity to replace teaching space and enlarge shared common areas, the client’s primary objectives for this project were to clarify campus entry, create a world-class education facility that reinforces learning and connectivity through transparency. Of equal importance was to strengthen the connections between education and environment as well as accommodate community use.

The Foster School of Business is in the midst of a transformation, with a clearly articulated vision to become the top public business school in the nation. The overriding purpose of this multi-phase project is to convert the school’s current collection of outdated facilities-through new construction and renovation-into a cohesive education complex that embodies its educational focus of leadership development, strategic thinking and collaboration.

This new project has just opened its doors earlier this month. Two years in the making its is being inaugurated during Kent State University’s centennial year, the Roe Green Center designed by Holzman Moss Bottino Architecture (HMBA) incorporates both renovation and new construction of the Music and Speech Building built in 1960.

The Museum’s mission is to provide informative, innovative and interactive educational programs and exhibitions about art and Northwest history and the influences that affected their evolution. It seeks to stimulate inquiry about our changing cultural, natural and historical landscapes, for the youngest to the oldest minds, and to inspire preservation of and creative contributions to our region. The Museum’s collection holds more than 200,000 artifacts and art pieces of regional importance, including a vast photographic archive.

A project of 34 housing units on an island site bordered by a gymnasium, a school and suburban housing, on avenue Henri Barbusse, along with a low-cost housing development from the 50s marked for demolition. Social-Housing-06The challenge here for the lessor is to rehouse 34 families close to their old district within a scenario of wholly revamped housing, clearly departing from the typical ‘Banlieu’ social housing.

Interesting project from Ofis Arhitekti in Borisov, Belarus. Construction for this Football (Soccer) stadium ... The original program required a spatial distribution that takes advantage of the natural attributes of the surrounding location, while minimizing the intervention on the terrain and conserving most of existing trees on the site. Still according to the program, the stadium should have 13.000 seats with an additional 3.000m2 of public space.
