Inspired by the shape of water in endless motion, The Blue Planet is shaped as a great whirlpool. The new Denmark’s Aquarium is situated in the borderland between the worlds of Poseidon and Zeus. The walls and roofs form a single, continuous flow and are clad in a way which emphasizes the wavy outline of the building, thereby telling a story of this union.

The architectural expression for the new performing arts centre has been inspired by the uniquely beautiful monument of Petra. As an artificial oasis and sanctuary the ancient city of Petra is an appropriate source of analogy for a performing arts centre that aspires to be an oasis and sanctuary for contemporary culture.

HOK-Designed Terminal at Indianapolis International Airport, which debuted in 2008, was the first designed with new security protocols following the 9/11 attacks. In designing the new terminal within the 1.2 million square foot airport complex, HOK responded to passenger needs to travel at a convenient, unhurried pace while accommodating post-9/11 security necessities.

The new office of San Paolo Bank in Baia Mare is located on the Unirii Boulevard, line connecting the new center with the south entrance of the city and featuring newly built edifices, as well as buildings currently under construction.

The project consists of an extension of Danfoss Universe Science Park. Danfoss Universe is a science park in Denmark, embedded in the agricultural landscape of Nordborg next to the founder’s home and the Danfoss HQ. It opened in May 2005 and has been expanding due to its considerable success.

The expansion of the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto speaks to its context in a variety of scales-- activating the site from the outside in, as well as inside out. A new cladding will be built around the existing structure, giving the building a unified image that articulates a larger idea about the site through the way it engages its surroundings, while also improving the building’s environmental performance.

Built on the campus of EPFL Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, The Rolex Learning Center, designed by the Japanese architectural practice SANAA, has opened February 22, 2010. The Rolex Learning Center will function as a laboratory for learning, a library with 500,000 volumes and an international cultural hub for EPFL, open to both students and the public.

The Chicago and China offices of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) have designed an urban model showcasing integrated solutions for energy, water conservation and transit systems in Beijing’s Dawangjing District. The SOM Plan introduces a sustainable “engine” in the form of a Central Park that would passively heat and cool the district.

Vigilius Mountain Resort is a 5-star hotel (35 rooms, 6 suites, 2 restaurants, a library, lounge, conference room, spa set over 3 levels with a pool) which interacts with surrounding nature. San Vigilio, near Merano, stand along the Valle dell’Adige 1500 metres above sea level. One of the world’s first cable cars was built in 1913 to get to San Vigilio.

On a narrow street of Victorian, working-class cottages in Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood, Bishop Street Residence is the renovation of a post-industrial building from a graphic design firm to a bachelor’s residence by Taylor_Smyth architects. The design negotiates the tightness and public nature of its urban site, while playing out desirable scenarios of a contemporary, urban retreat.

The aim of the project was to revitalize a dismissed industrial area with a residential building. The challenge was to work within the parameters of good design and a low budget to provide the city with quality architecture while respecting the commercial space requirements of the client. The resulting project provides a substantial architectural impact with respect to the smaller buildings of the area that are characterized by a broad range of building styles.
